Meet the new serum shaking up your skincare routine
Whether a serum, moisturiser or cleanser, the fundamental aim of every CeraVe formulation is to protect the delicate skin barrier. Best imagined as the brick wall that protects the skin, the barrier contains sheets of lipids, or the lipid lamellae, which acts as the mortar to protect the skin cells and prevent harmful pathogens from entering. Despite being so vital to skin health this barrier can be easily damaged by environmental aggressors as well as factors such as soap, detergents and advancing age. As a result, skin quickly loses its vital hydration and can become dry, itchy and uncomfortable.
To fix a compromised skin barrier, an effective emollient or moisturiser is required. Featuring a combination of oils, humectants, ceramides and fatty acids, emollients help rebuild the lipid lamellae, reconstruct the barrier and ensure its protective capabilities are restored. Critical to the efficacy of any formula however, regardless of its function, is the sequence with which it’s made, mixed and delivered; a subpar formula will not only yield little to no results, it could potentially cause more harm than good.
“In order to drive a difference in your skin [every formula] is co-developed with a panel of dermatologists from all over the world that weigh in on which ingredients and at what percentage to use, as well as which ones to avoid.” adds CeraVe Co-Founder Tom Allison.
Designed to deliver visible results and effectively address lost hydration as a result of a damaged skin barrier, CeraVe introduces Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum, a next generation hybrid hydration serum in a carefully crafted, synergistic formula. As well as containing moisture-boosting hyaluronic acid, CeraVe’s signature 3 ceramides, Vitamin B5 and glycerin, Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum contains MVE technology, a unique delivery system that releases the active ingredients throughout the course of the day, for 24 hour hydration.
Providing the targeted delivery benefits of a serum, Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum also contains light-weight yet creamy emollients traditionally found in moisturisers, the gel-cream texture is fast absorbing leaving no residue on the skin. The purpose? To dramatically improve both application and hydration. As Tom explains, “The concept of a serum is to deliver a high concentration of active ingredients into the skin. Watery serums can prove tricky to apply and evenly distribute across the entire face. CeraVe Hyaluronic Acid Serum was designed with lightweight emollients for a creamy serum texture that will spread easily and evenly across the face to effectively lock in moisture for all day hydration.”
The long-lasting hydration you’d expect of a hyaluronic serum, the gel-cream formula goes further still, offering additional reparative and protective benefits to promote optimal skin health.
According to research carried out by Professor Michael J Cork at the University of Sheffield, CeraVe’s core technology not only demonstrated an ability to repair a defective lipid lamellae and reduce trans-epidermal water loss in testing, it also made skin more resilient to, and protected against, damaging chemicals such as SLS put on its surface.
